What is a Global Talent Visa?

The Global Talent visa is a type of UK immigration visas for individuals who demonstrate talent and promising skills in specific sectors and wish to work in the United Kingdom. To get the Global Talent visa, a person must successfully apply for an endorsement from one of six endorsing bodies authorised by the Home Office.

What are the advantages of a Global Talent Visa?

To demonstrate how this visa route can positively change your life, there are ten main advantages for recipients of Global Talent Visa:

  1. You will get legal permit to live in the UK;
  2. Your UK work permit will give you permission to be full-time employed;
  3. You can open your own company in the UK;
  4. You can be self-employed or work for someone else;
  5. Employment sponsorship is not required for Global Talent Visa;
  6. You shouldn’t pass English language exam;
  7. There is no need to have any money in your bank account;
  8. You can bring your partner and child to the UK;
  9. Your partner can legally work in the UK and your child can go to nursery or school like British kid;
  10. You and your dependants will get access to National Health Service (NHS).

Who can apply for Global Talent Visa?

You must be internationally recognised expert. And you must be prominent in your field. But there is no minimal time requirements for your recognition. Also, you must able be able to show your positive impact or ability to make it on whole industry of your expertise. You must have three people, who can recommend you. In addition, these people must have established reputation in the same field as you.

How can I get Global Talent Visa for UK?

You can get Global Talent Visa for UK if you work in specific field. Also you must get the Endorsement from the authorised UK body among the main areas:

  • science
  • engineering
  • humanities
  • medicine
  • digital technology
  • the arts
  • fashion
  • architecture
  • film and television

How much does a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent UK Visa cost?

First of all, the total fee for of Global Talent Visa application is £152. If you are originated from Turkey or North Macedonia, then the visa will cost £97.

For each dependant, the visa will cost £608 per year.

However, the biggest part of the payment, related to Global Talent Visa, is Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). Particularly, from October 2020, the amount of IHS to pay for each year of visa is increased to £624.

What is Exceptional Talent Visa?

This is the same as Global Talent Visa. Or, for specific fields like Digital Technologies, Exceptional Talent Visa is called Tech Nation Visa.

Generally, this category was created for highly skilled people in specific fields of expertise who wish to work in the UK. Applicants must have international recognition at the highest level. They must be leaders in their field or have demonstrated exceptional promise in the field of expertise.

How do I apply for a Global Talent Visa?

It doesn’t matter where you are now. You can apply for a Global Talent Visa from within the United Kingdom or outside it.
If you apply from within the UK then most applications are made online. For example, you can switch from Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 5 visas to a Global Talent Visa.

If you apply from any other country, then your application will be accepted from outside the UK. You must have permission to live in the country you are applying from for at least 6 months. Then it may be possible to apply at a visa application centre if the UK embassy or consulate in the country of your residence accepts applications for the Global Talent Visa.

To get a biometric residence permit, you must have your fingerprints and photograph taken at a visa application centre.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for a Global Talent Visa?

There are two stages to get a Global Talent Visa:

  1. Endorsement stage, and
  2. Applying for the visa (only if the first stage was successful)

The first step is to get endorsement from one of the designated bodies. Depending on you expert field it may be The Royal Society, the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, Arts Council England, Tech Nation, and the UK research organisation, approved by UKRI.

After the successful completion of Endorsement stage, you must be endorsed as a leader (exceptional talent) or emerging leader (exceptional promise).

If you don’t get Endorsement, your application for Global Talent Visa is unsuccessful.

In which field can I get Endorsement?

As of 2020, there are nine main fields to endorse exceptional talents and exceptional promises, who apply for Global Talent Visa. As a result, you may get Endorsement in:

  1. science
  2. engineering
  3. humanities
  4. medicine
  5. digital technology
  6. the arts
  7. fashion
  8. architecture
  9. film and television

What documents you must provide for UK Global Talent Visa?

You need to have different documents for Endorsement and Visa stages. To get Endorsement you must apply an application with Personal Statement, three Letters of Recommendation with CVs of your referees , up to 10 supporting documents (like evidence about active GitHub profile, proof of international recognition, academic contribution) and your CV.

You must attach a certified translation of any documents that are not in English (Welsh).

Also, you must have Endorsement Letter, a current passport or other valid travel document and in some cases – your tuberculosis test result.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for a Global Talent Visa?

The main requirement to for Global Talent Visa is the Endorsement from designated body. In other words, if you are endorsed by Tech Nation (or other body) then you can apply for a visa.

You cannot succeed without Endorsement. In fact, this means that Endorsement is your one-way ticket to the United Kingdom. Sure, you may have issues on visa stage, but over 90% of applicants don’t have them. With this in mind, Endorsement from Tech Nation almost always means that you will get Global Talent Visa.

Can I bring my family with me to the UK on a Global Talent Visa?

Yes, you can. It is possible to apply for Exceptional Talent Partner Visa and Exceptional Talent Child Visa. In brief, each of these visas does not require too much documents. You must provide evidence of your endorsement, relationship and tuberculosis test results. Lastly, each dependant’s visa costs £602 per year.

Can I bring my unmarried partner on UK Exceptional Talent Visa?

Yes, of course, you can. As soon as you will get your Global Talent Visa, it is possible to bring your unmarried partner to the UK.

You need to follow not only the general procedure for Exceptional Talent Partner Visa but also provide more evidence about the relationship between two of you.

What is Personal Statement?

Personal Statement is a part of Global Talent Visa application. This isn’t a separate document. You write personal statement, when filling the application for your exceptional talent visa. You must write about professional achievements in the past and your future plans. Particularly, your contribution to the UK tech ecosystem and benefits, which you will gain living in the UK. Separately, you must write about your future destination (city or town) and provide reasons for your choice.

What is Letter of Recommendation?

Letter of Recommendation is a part of Global Talent Visa application. It supports your application, confirms your expertise and clarifies future impact on the tech ecosystem in the UK. You must have three recommendation letters to be eligible for Endorsement.

Each person, who sign a Letter of Recommendation, is your referee. The referee must have the C-suite role in the company. To demonstrate support to you, a referee has to provide feedback about you as an expert in your field. Regardless of residence, the referee must be a well-reputed person.

Can I extend a Global Talent Visa?

Sure, you can get Global Talent Visa for the full period of 3 years for Exceptional Talent. If you are Exceptional Promise then you can apply for a visa, which will expire in 5 years. The minimum period for any visa is one year. After this period you can extend your visa to the maximum duration of either three or five years, depending on your type of visa.
