How to Write Personal Statement for UK Exceptional Talent Visa

How to write Personal Statement for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa application

It is always a challenge. And personally, always not easy to do. I spend a couple of hours or even days for writing a personal statement. And re-writing it. But thinking about the Personal Statement for such honoured UK Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa (Global Talent Visa) I have doubled my work. So how to write Personal Statement? What to include? What to avoid?

I have written four drafts (!!!) of the Personal Statement for my visa application. I have done them in different styles, with an unequal amount of words and characters. But in general, I can highlight the most important aspects of a personal statement. Surely, you must start with them when following the 32 steps to get TechNation visa.

Length

Maximum 7,000 characters or two sides of one A4 in Times Roman 12.

I can share my own experience with you. My Personal Statement had 6,041 characters.

Make it simple. You should not write a “War and Peace” about yourself. But being too short is also not the best option.

Think about the experts, who will read your masterpiece. They need to feel you, your level. As well as your ideas.

How to write Personal Statement? Answer questions

Tech Nation has already declared what do they want to read. Hence, obligatory you need to cover:

  • Why do you want to come to the UK?
  • Do you already know what will your occupation be in the UK?
  • Have you suggested, which region or city of the UK are you planning to live?
  • How will the UK digital technology sector benefit from your work?
For example, what technological advances you will bring. Or tell about the creation of new markets, the planned growth of a company. Write about activities you will take part in outside of your direct occupation.
  • What are your long-term plans in the UK?

I have written more details regarding all of these points in more details here.

Proofreading of Personal Statement

If you are a fluent English speaker – this is great!

But if not, you need to ask someone with a better command of English to help you. Ideally, it must be s professional translation service. But it costs money.

Believe me, even without a professional translator and proofreader, you can write a good Personal Statement. May I be your inspiration :)?

You can read my own five must do’s for this critical document to understand requirements to it in depth.

Sure, silly mistakes are not permitted. But to cut them – install add-on or extension, which marks elementary mistakes, to your web browser. It will bring a little help too. But in general, do not be scared too much about English grammar.

Then again about me. I have written the statement by myself. My English is not perfect, but I did my best to correct all my mistakes. I read my statement for a couple of days in the morning and the evening. And if you also will use this method – you will find some extra commas, dots, incorrect articles, etc.

Salutation

It is up to you, but I at the beginning of my statement I put welcome. I wrote: “Good afternoon, my name is Andrii, and I would like to provide more details regarding my application for a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa to work and do entrepreneurship in the United Kingdom.” At the end of my statement, I wrote shortly: “Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, Andrii Seleznov”. Perhaps, these parts of the application do not bring any points, but this is a matter of personal culture and mindset.

Finally, you can download Talent Visa – a mobile application with an example of Personal Statement for the UK Exceptional Talent Visa and some other critical documents by the Tech Nation Guidelines and reviewed by the UK Immigration Solicitor.

    1. Hi Bimlesh,
Thanks for your comment and questions. Yes, I have got many questions from people who are Tier 2 General Visa holders and want to stop this so-called “visa slavery” in order to launch own consultancy. It is surely possible and I have a couple of examples in our Tech Nation Visa Holders community. What is required for successful switch from Tier 2 to Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa – not only a huge experience in digital technologies but desire to do something unique, create unexpected and new things in digital fields.
I have written about these things a lot in this blog and also – in my Talent Visa App. So you can download it and read about my own experience of Tech Nation Visa application as well as get examples of Personal Statement, Letter of Recommendation and template phrases to write a winning Personal Statement or any other document for your visa application

  3. Hi Andrii,

    Great blog, thank you.
Could you please clarify if 7000 characters is a maximum length limit for PS with spaces or without?

    Thanks
    Alex

    1. Hi Alex,
I checked my own Personal Statement and see that it is number of characters without spaces. Anyway, when I was writing my Personal Statement I paid more attention to the number of words – less than 1000. In e-application, as I remember, only the number of words are the main criteria.

  4. Andril,

can I have some letters of recommendation, I have my IT company in USA, I need to apply for Tier 1 visa as exceptional talent.

    1. Dear Hari,
I do not completely understand your question but using the information that you have provided (a) yes, you can apply for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa as Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise, (b) you must have at least two Letters of Recommendation for your visa application, (c) the ownership of IT company is the US is good for you and in appropriate explanation may bring benefits to your visa application.
