Tricky moment: immigration healthcare surcharge on Visa Stage

Health Surcharge was one of the most unclear moments in Tech Nation Visa application for me

National Health Service (NHS) is the name of the public health services in the United Kingdom. All applicants for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa are required to pay for their future health services at Foggy Albion. This payment is called the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). At first glance, it seems that this step of the application is very easy to do. But in reality is not completely easy. This is my explanation of why.

Immigration Health Surcharge and Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa

First of all, I have already mentioned in one of my posts that paying for IHS of the main applicant for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa is not difficult. That is why applying for 1 year Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa, you need to pay £400 per year. Happiness will appear immediately :).

Please, double-check the sum. When I applied in 2016, the sum was £200 per year. However, due to economic reasons, it grows constantly. Thinking about the global pandemic in 2020, we can expect £600 per year in the nearest future…

At the same time, when you have dependents (read – Exceptional Talent Partner or Exceptional Talent Child), mind the phrase “Dependants usually need to pay the same amount as you.”

Dependants Must Pay As Well

Reality is not the same. Dependants will pay the whole amount of IHS for 5 years.

Hence, if you are applying for a 5-year visa, your Exceptional Talent Partner will pay £2000 for IHS and if you are the applicant for a 1-year visa, the amount will stay the same – £400 per year per person.

Overall assessment of the IHS is available here. Please, mind the importance of every part of this calculator. I mean if you are calculating fee, applying alone, you will see one sum.

Meanwhile, applying with dependents, the sum will differ. If your dependents will apply by themselves – the fee will be completely different.

By the way, if you will get a refusal (instead of your visa), then you must expect an automatic refund.
