As a holder of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in Digital Technologies, I am proud to be also a part of Tech London Advocates (TLA). On Tuesday, November 20, we had an annual meeting with a discussion on the results of the year and plans ahead.

First of all, what is Tech London Advocates? You can find more on the website, but in brief, this is an organisation of digital people in London. We are focusing on doing the capital of the United Kingdom even more technologically developed (the sky is our limit :))

Russ Shaw founded our organisation in 2013, and during the last five years, it has become one of the recognised members of the tech scene in the UK.
At least two features make Tech London Advocates unique:

  • Membership in the organisation is free but not available for everyone. Only TLA member can recommend someone as a  prospective member; you cannot become a Tech London Advocate by application;
  • the work in the organisation is separated into 11 working groups: Circular Economy, Corporate Innovation, Education, Immigration, Infrastructure, LGBTQ, ScaleUp, Tech for Good, Tech Policy, Triage, WomenInTech.

I was delighted to meet Pat Saini. She is a Partner at Penningtons Manches, one of the well-known legal companies in the UK; and she is a Head of Immigration working group at TLA. As a representative of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa Alumni, I believe that our collaboration may bring good outcomes for Tech London Advocates and whole tech ecosystem.

How to become a Tech London Advocate?

As I have mentioned above, you cannot press a button “Apply” and become an Advocate. The detailed explanation of how to obtain this honourable status is here.  So when you will be ready and feel enough power to bring positive changes into London’s life as a tech hub of the world – contact existing Advocate. TLA needs more talents.

The annual Tech London Advocates meeting venue was Egyptian Hall at Mansion House. This is one of the most beautiful halls in the City of London
